Reverse Sweep Elbow Roll

Yes! The holy grail of Rolls...

This roll is introduced in the Swedish Greenland Rolling Competition in 2025.

Why? Isn't it impossible? NO! The code has been broken! So far two persons have pulled it off! Lisbeth a Danish woman has repeatedly demonstrated this roll, even in competition.

Well, I may never be able to carry this one out but for all the great rollers out there this may be the toughest of challanges.

I interviewed the rollers who managed and I got them on film. From what I have gathered in form of information this is it:

1. As you capsize, hold your backward leaning position until the back of your head gets to the surface. Arch your back forcefully and start the sweep.

2. The sweeping motion with your body and elbow doesn't stop at any angle but continues up to the gunwale and onto the front deck. This is a bit different from the way I do forward finishing rolls as I stop at around 45 degrees forward and push down with whatever I have as leveage. Since I don't have any leverage in this roll it makes sence.

3. Flexibility, you will need to be able to have your head at the level of your knee. Not on top of the knee but next to it.

4. As I have tried it I find it helpful to move my feet to the non-water side as I do in the Straight Jacket roll as well. Now the water leg can't be straight as I need to get a good grip to turn the qajaq so I bend the water leg to reach the thigh brace or masik in about the normal position. This implies that my water-knee will be a bit futher back as it is bent... Still working on it..... TBC
